Annular Solar Eclipse & 50th Anniversary

Annular Solar Eclipse & 50th Anniversary
Saturday, October 14, 2023 (7:00 AM - 6:00 PM) (PDT)
Description
Just after 8AM, an annular solar eclipse, when the moon passes in front of the sun, will cause a "ring of fire" effect. Goldendale's latitude is north of the eclipse path, so a solar crescent with 84% coverage will be seen. Eclipse viewers wishing to observe a complete ring should consider venturing 230 miles south of Goldendale.
**Absolutely essential to use solar filters to avoid serious or potentially permanent eye injury** Dark sunglasses are not enough!! Solar filters are widely available and inexpensive.
Goldendale Observatory will be celebrating its 50th anniversary on October 14th as well! Festivities begin at 2pm, preempting our regular solar program. We want to provide ample opportunity for local community members to attend this event, so reservations are being carefully managed. General signups will become available before October.
