About
The Alder Creek Pioneer Association celebrates its heritage with the 113th Annual Pioneer Picnic & Rodeo in 2024. Established in 1911, this event is a testament to the enduring traditions of the community. Sanctioned by the Northwest Professional Rodeo Association (NPRA), the picnic and rodeo offer a glimpse into the competitive spirit and camaraderie that define the sport
The Alder Creek Pioneer Association’s historic carousel, crafted between 1890 and 1907, began delighting visitors at Portland’s “The Oaks” Amusement Park in 1905. Unique for its two-row track design without an overhead mechanism, it features 24 horses and four chariots. Acquired by the Association in 1929 for $500, it was transported and reassembled at Cleveland’s Pioneer Picnic grounds. It quickly became a local treasure, earning $286.98 in its debut year. Restoration efforts to preserve this cherished piece of history commenced in 1968.
