About
In 2006, communities in Klickitat and Skamania Counties actively participated in the Washington State University Horizons Project. This two-year program aimed to cultivate leadership opportunities within rural communities, ultimately enhancing the financial well-being of low-income residents. The project received funding from the Northwest Area Foundation (NWAF) and was administered by Washington State University Extension.
Upon completion of the Horizons Project, a critical question emerged: How could our rural communities sustainably build capacity to support local organizations and families? The answer became clear—a dedicated organization capable of providing fiscal sponsorship and initial resources was essential for launching small community projects, activities, and events.
